Canadian artist Amy Schissel is currently based in Miami (Florida) where she is an assistant professor of Painting at the University of Miami. She obtained her MFA (2009) from the University of Ottawa. She was awarded a 2017 Joan Mitchell Painting and Sculpture Award, and a 2019 Joan Mitchell Residency Fellowship in New Orleans. In 2013 she received Ottawa Canada’s Royal Bank of Canada’s Emerging Artist Award, and was a finalist in the 2011 RBC Canadian Painting Competition, touring Canada. Recent national and international exhibitions include the ARMORY International Art Fair in NYC, VOLTA Basel (Switzerland), VOLTA NY (NYC), West Virginia University Fine Art Museum, Northern Illinois University Art Museum, Huntington Museum of Art, Florida State University Museum of Fine Art, University of Brussels Gallery, and Patrick Mikhail Galleries in Montréal. Ms. Schissel has lectured across the country and internationally in Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Pittsburgh. Her work has appeared in Forbes, Artpulse, Canadian Art and Border Crossings magazines, and has been collected worldwide.
