Itay Sapir est professeur au Département d'histoire de l'art de l'Université du Québec à Montréal. Il est l'auteur de Ténèbres sans leçons : esthétique et épistémologie de la peinture ténébriste romaine, 1596-1610 (Peter Lang, 2012). Récipiendaire de la Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers en 2018, il a également récemment publié « Pain and Paint : Titian, Ribera and the Flaying of Marsyas » dans Visualizing Sensuous Suffering and Affective Pain in Early Modern Europe and the Spanish Americas (2018) et « Shadowy Realism : Negative Knowledge in Seventeenth-Century Neapolitan Painting » dans la revue Nuncius. Journal of the Material and Visual History of Science (2017).
